Learning Disabilities Worldwide
"We would like to thank our members who called and wrote their state representatives on behalf of this bill," said Teresa Allissa Citro, Executive Director of Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW®) and a member of the advisory board for Alliance for a Healthy Tomorrow. "By joining our voices we were able to send a strong message to the Massachusetts state legislature regarding the dangers that products containing mercury pose to the public." Mercury waste is created when these products are broken and the mercury vaporizes and is released into the atmosphere.
Mercury is a dangerous neurotoxin that has been linked to learning disabilities and developmental delays in children. Adults are also at risk and may suffer damage to the heart, kidneys, and nervous system when mercury is ingested.
LDW® will continue to advocate for passage of environmental
laws that affect the health of people in the United States and around
the world. We are committed to keeping our members informed so that they
may continue to impact important legislation.
